College Internship Opportunities

Mystic Aquarium’s intern program is designed to provide college students and recent college graduates with a dynamic educational opportunity while simultaneously providing career experience. Our unique program requires the completion of an independent project developed under the guidance of an aquarium supervisor coupled with work experience in the department of choice. We accept 1-3 interns per semester in each department, allowing a close working relationship between intern and accomplished aquarium staff.

Veterinary Internship / Research Opportunities at Mystic Aquarium

With the assistance of both external and in-house funding, the Department of Animal Care of Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, a division of Sea Research Foundation, is sponsoring a one-year internship/research opportunity in aquatic animal medicine. Applicants for the internship should be graduates of an AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVG certified. All applicants should have successfully passed the NAVLE. Preference will be given to applicants with graduate degrees and/or postgraduate clinical experience in a practice or internship setting. Entry level familiarity with ultrasound, radiology, and endoscopy systems is expected. The stipend for the position is expected to be $26,000 per annum plus benefits.

A Student Guide to Mystic Aquarium Veterinary Externships

Since its inception in the mid 1970's, the veterinary externship program offered by the Department of Research and Veterinary Services (RAVS) at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Explorations has welcomed scores of veterinary students and veterinarians from institutions worldwide. Our current veterinary externships are available to qualified veterinary students or graduate veterinarians with an interest in aquatic animal medicine. Veterinary externships are clinically-focused, and externs are required to complete a literature review or research project during the externship, the results of which are presented in lecture format to our staff.

Acceptance Requirements

The student must be enrolled in or recently graduated from college in order to participate. Internships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. If the student’s college offers credit for internships, it is the student’s responsibility to arrange for the credit.
